What does a doula NOT do?
Doulas are not medical professionals, and the following tasks are not performed by doulas:
- They do not perform clinical tasks such as vaginal exams or fetal heart monitoring 
- They do not give medical advice or diagnose conditions 
- They do not make decisions for the client (medical or otherwise) 
- They do not pressure the birthing person into certain choices just because that’s what they prefer 
- They do not take over the role of the support person 
- They do not catch the baby 
- They do not change shifts 
Do you attend all hospital births? Home births? Are there any birth centers you don’t go to?
- I attend births at any location! 
How would you describe your doula style?
- I would describe my doula style as calm and attentive. I will meet you where you are in your journey. 
Do you work with my husband?
- Absolutely! I am not there to take any role away from your husband! He knows you better than anyone, I know birth. Together we will make a great team. 
What if I plan on getting an epidural? Will you still be helpful?
- Yes! There are many things I can help with when you have an epidural such as rubbing your feet and legs, helping you turn in bed, letting dad/support person go get something to eat, rest or anything else that would make you more comfortable.
